Subject: [NFEC Update] Would your elders like to receive an extra $300 this
year?
Message-ID: <82182B01DBD600448F4C7D2631BA1BFE3AEFD9@SERVER1.fnoc.internal>
As you may know, many qualifying taxpayers received an Economic Stimulus
Payment with their tax refunds earlier this year. But did you know that
you don't have to owe taxes to get the payment?! According to the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS), millions of Americans have not filed to
receive their Economic Stimulus Payments!
Who are these Americans? They are elders who receive at least $3,000 in
Social Security income and low-income families who earn at least $3,000
but not enough to owe taxes. These are the people in your community who
could use the money the most! They aren't required to file tax returns
so they may not have realized that could get this benefit.
Please talk to your friends, families and community members to see if
they are eligible. You don't have to be a tax preparer to help them.
All the information you need is attached. It is easy! You can either
help them file for the benefit online or mail in the attached Form 1040A
by October 15, 2008.
You are eligible if:
* You or your family has at least $3,000 in qualifying income
from, or in combination with, Social Security benefits, Veterans Affairs
benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits and earned income. Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the
stimulus payment.
* You and any family members listed on your tax return have valid
Social Security numbers.
* You are not a dependent or eligible to be a dependent on someone
else's federal tax return. (The same must be true of any family members
claimed on your return.)
How much are we talking? Seniors could get $300 deposited into their
checking accounts or mailed to them by check! Joint filers could get
between $600 and $1200, and those with eligible children could get $300
for each child.
For more information, visit www.irs.gov . Please
help spread the word. This could be your Grandma who misses the
opportunity to receive $300! The filing deadline is October 15, 2008.
Thanks, Joanna
